Good times, good times

This past Saturday was one of the times that makes me 100% convinced moving to Asheville was a great decision! The past weekend was the Mountain Sports Festival at Carrier Park, which also happens to house the local velodrome. Yes, Asheville does have a velodrome. It's affectionately referred to as the mellowdrome because of it's very slack angles.

The MSF is a gathering of outdoor sports enthusiasts revolving around vendors, music, events, and some cold beverages. Saturday night was the Fat Tire Track Racing, where the local mountain bikers were invited to race mountain bikes on the track for the first time ever. Unless you were there and know all the "combatants" it's very hard to express how much fun the night was.

Matt Johnson & I got 2nd & 3rd in the miss-n-out race, there were team events, and 2-3 lap dashes for cash! All fueled on by some free beer we all scored with our connections. Greta even brought her bike and raced around the track to the cheers of the local cycling community.

If you tried to do it all again it would pail in comparison. It was great and special because it was the first event of it's kind. The best people of Asheville were there, and no attitudes were allowed! I can't imagine this event happening anywhere else but here.

A couple pics;

That's me with the fist out, ready to race!
